StrucNet’s vision is to understand vegetation dynamics through continuous monitoring of vegetation structure through autonomous ground based laser scanning. Thereby, StrucNet aims to identify the subtle impacts of climate and environmental change on vegetation structure, functioning and provided ecosystem services.
Within the context of StrucNet, we focus on vegetation ecosystems such as forests and savannas. Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) are measurable indicators designed to capture critical scales and dimensions of biodiversity with the ability to measure change through time. By linking vegetation structure measured through autonomous ground based laser scanning to EBVs, we aim to enhance our comprehension of the ecosystem dynamics at a global scale through a network of distributed plots.
